fundraising challenge for Give Something Back Foundation kicks off at sales convention in San Antonio

San Antonio, TX (PRWEB) March 07, 2016

Robert O. Carr, Chairman and CEO of Heartland Payment Systems and Founder of the Give Something Back Foundation, and Tony Robbins, New York Times Best Selling Author, Entrepreneur, Philanthropist, and the nation’s #1 Business & Life Strategist, today announced a partnership on a campaign focused on two important goals: to help send kids to college and feed the hungry.

“We’re here to launch the ROC ‘N ROBBINS CHALLENGE and to ask for your help to support our mission,” said Carr during his keynote address at Heartland’s 2016 Diamond Sales Conference in San Antonio, Texas. “How many kids can we send to college today?”

Carr (commonly known as “Roc”) and Robbins each presented $2 million checks in front of the 800 conference attendees. Two million dollars will go to Carr’s Give Something Back Foundation to send 100 economically disadvantaged kids to college, covering all tuition, room and board. The other two million dollars will go to the Anthony Robbins Foundation to provide 22 million meals for those in need this year.

“I’m deeply and personally committed to both of the causes supported by the ROC ‘N ROBBINS CHALLENGE,” said Robbins. “Ensuring that American families have enough food to eat and providing young men and women with opportunities to pursue higher education are critically important initiatives. I am proud to work with Bob and the team at Heartland to help secure a brighter future for communities throughout our country.”

The Heartland Sales Organization also pledged $250,000 to each foundation. Robbins and Carr will match these gifts, as well as all funds raised during the sales conference by the attendees. The ROC ‘N ROBBINS CHALLENGE also launched a fundraising site at Deposit-A-Gift to accept public contributions.

“This is an extraordinary opportunity to partner with Tony Robbins, a passionate philanthropist whose mission aligns with that of my foundation,” added Carr. “Between the two of us, I know we can make an impact on the lives of many underserved kids.”

Tony Robbins’ commitment to philanthropy was inspired by an act of kindness early in his life: when Robbins was 11 years old and living in poverty, his family did not have food to celebrate Thanksgiving. A stranger knocked on their door and brought them a complete turkey dinner. Robbins never forgot the impact of that stranger’s gesture, and it led to a lifelong crusade to do the same for others. Through his Anthony Robbins Foundation and his partnership with Feeding America, he has donated more than 140 million meals to people in need across the country.

Carr was a high school senior from a struggling working class household in Lockport, Ill., when he received an unexpected $250 scholarship from a local women’s club to put toward his college tuition. At that moment he vowed to someday give back. Carr’s Give Something Back Foundation, which provides mentors and scholarships to help Pell Grant-eligible students go to college and graduate in four years debt-free, is his goal realized.

About Robert Carr
Robert Carr is the author of “Through the Fires: An American Story of Turbulence, Business Triumph and Giving Back.”

Carr built Heartland from a modest start-up with 25 employees in 1997 into a Fortune 1000 company that today employs more than 4,600. Heartland’s clients range from major retail chains to restaurants to mom-and-pop stores and websites to colleges and school districts in some of America’s largest cities.

In an age of increasing cyber assaults, Carr has led Heartland to become a gold standard in security strategy. After a remarkable recovery from the 2008 international hacking conspiracy, Heartland emerged as a champion in the fight against cybercrime. Carr was recently named by President Barack Obama to a key post on the National Infrastructure Advisory Council.

In 2015, Global Payments Inc., an Atlanta-based worldwide provider of payment technology services, announced it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Heartland for $4.3 billion, and Robert Carr announced he would devote his time to work directly with the Give Something Back Foundation, which was started in 2003 and incorporated in 2006.
