Indian River High School, Class of 2019

Martina is a member of Give Back’s first cohort in Delaware. She said when she learned she was accepted into the scholarship program, the massive weights of student debt and choosing a college were lifted from her shoulders. “Now my main focus can be on maintaining good grades.”

And she does get great grades — exceeding Give Back’s required GPA of 3.0, and taking Honors classes in English, Chemistry, and French 3, and Advanced Placement U.S. History. She is involved in the Foreign Language Activity Group (FLAG), volunteers for a foundation that raises awareness for pediatric cancer, and writes for an online magazine.

When Martina arrives on the campus of University of Delaware in the Fall of 2019, she is looking forward to learning and studying the things she is passionate about, such as journalism. She’s excited to explore the campus, get involved and eat in the dining hall!

Martina said, “I am continuously and endlessly thankful for my school and my guidance counselor for making me aware of this opportunity so that I can save my mom and dad the stress of finding ways to pay for my college tuition, and to Bob Carr, the founder of Give Back, for using his privilege in the best way possible, and for allowing students like me the chance to attend college.”
